About
Kia was born and raised in Traverse City, Michigan. Kia transferred to the University of Michigan after participating as a research fellow in the Community College Summer Research Fellowship in summer of 2016.
Since transferring to the University, she has been active in activism by volunteering through SAPAC and the U-M Title Sexual Misconduct Policy Advisory Board. Continuing her research has been a huge source of growth and confidence. Her first year as a transfer student, it provided a community for her that was instrumental in a successful transfer. Now in her final year, it is the mechanism that is allowing her to challenge herself even further, through the writing of a senior honors thesis. Graduating with honors from the University of Michigan and the product of a thesis is something that has been central to her academic path since coming to the University. "The purpose and voice that becoming involved in research and then conducting my own is why I love UROP and continue to stay involved." After obtaining her bachelors from Michigan Kia plans to use the next year or two as gap years and applying to graduate programs to further her studies and goals.
