About
Bashair is a senior in LSA, majoring in Communication and Media. In 2018 she transferred from Henry Ford Community College, where she completed an Associates degree in Telecommunications and Journalism. Last year she completed her Honor's thesis, Representation Matters: Entertainment Portrayals as Indirect Identity Threats in Muslim College Students. Currently, Bashair works on the project Life Without Parole in the Michigan Law School, where she is learning more about civil-criminal litigation. She hopes to pursue a career in law, and has a particular interest in immigration and civil rights.
As an undergraduate, Bashair has been involved in research in a myriad of fields including architecture, cognitive psychology and neuroscience, sociology, and political science. She is passionate about research that has a clear, positive, real-world impact and is excited to explore this theme more deeply in her UROP seminar.
Bashair grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah and Urbana-Champaign, Illinois, and has spent most of her adult life in Michigan. She was born in Egypt, and has lived in three countries. She speaks Arabic and American Sign Language and hopes to learn Spanish or French. Bashair enjoys spending time with family, meeting new people, and learning about different cultures.
