The Biomedical and Life Sciences Fellowship Program aims to inspire students from diverse backgrounds to consider pursuing graduate studies in the Biomedical and Life Sciences fields. By engaging in an intensive 10-week full-time summer research experience, participating undergraduates gain valuable hands-on research experience and mentoring, enhancing their confidence in their abilities. Additionally, they learn to appreciate the benefits of pursuing an advanced degree.

This is a paid summer fellowship where students earn a stipend for their research, working between 20 to 40 hours per week. Full-Time (40 hours per week, 400 hours total): $3,000 - $6,000. Some opportunities may also be available on a part-time basis.
Please Note: Stipends will be prorated for fellows who are unable to complete the full 400 hours within the allotted time.
Note to International Students currently in the U.S.: Due to the stipend associated with these fellowships, F-1 or J-1 visa holders must obtain authorization through F-1 Curricular Practical Training (CPT) or J-1 Academic Training (AT) to participate. Please consult with your Academic Advisor and International Student Advisor at your home institution to confirm your CPT/AT eligibility, requirements, and application procedures.
The Biomedical and Life Science summer program is open to current undergraduate students at the University of Michigan who will not graduate before December 2025. Students must be at least 18 years old to participate.
University of Michigan UROP summer research participants are NOT permitted to enroll in Spring-Summer classes at the University of Michigan unless pre-approved by the Director of UROP. Summer research fellows receive paid stipends, and if they enroll in spring-summer classes and receive financial aid, the stipend may negatively impact their financial aid for those terms.
