UROP Student Grant Application 2026 - 2027
UROP provides grants to currently enrolled U-M UROP students who do not have work-study as part of their financial aid package but who have demonstrated financial need. U.S. Citizenship is a requirement! Many students receive financial aid from the University, but a large portion of it is in the form of loans. Other students receive some financial aid, but the financial aid award notice indicates you still have ‘unmet financial need’. In other cases, recently changed family circumstances have created financial need, e.g. one of your parents lost their job.
A UROP Grant process works similarly to how we compensate work-study students. Students will be hired as a temporary student employee and receive an hourly wage. Students will not be paid for the biweekly seminars but are required to attend the seminars for credit like other UROP students. Not attending seminars and non-compliance with other UROP requirements may be factors for suspending the student’s funding.
UROP Grants are based on demonstrated financial need. Given limited funding to provide grants to all students with financial need, we are not able to extend grants to students who would prefer to do UROP for compensation vs. credit.
Application opens: Monday, August 31, 2026
Deadline to apply for the UROP Grant: Friday, October 16, 2026 by 5:00 pm (EDT)
Important: Financial assistance from all sources during the academic year (September through August) factors into the ongoing review of your financial aid eligibility now and in the future. This includes periods when you may not be actively enrolled in courses, and includes the spring/summer term following graduation. If your total financial aid, including any new offer, exceeds your eligibility for financial assistance this academic year, your aid may be limited in a future term or reduced from previously received assistance. You can learn more about financial aid terms and conditions on the Office of Financial Aid's website. Important: If this new funding reduces other aid that you receive, we encourage you to reach out directly to the Office of Financial Aid to explore their budget evaluation process and your options to restore reduced funding.
