Where did you transfer from? Grand Rapids Community College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I graduated high school in the spring of 2020, right in the midst of COVID, and decided that community college was the better option with schools being closed down. During the entirety of the three years I attended community college, my plan was to transfer to U of M. Eventually in the fall of 2023 I knew it was the right time and decided to transfer. I chose to transfer to the University of Michigan because of the amazing academic opportunities and the numerous opportunities that are available! I knew that I wanted to be pushed academically, and be surrounded by others who want to be pushed academically and knew that U of M was the perfect place for me.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Ask questions and try to get involved! The transfer process can seem very daunting, but it can be much simpler just by talking to people and asking questions when you are confused. You are not alone in your feelings, and we want you to know that there are resources for you when you have questions and concerns!
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? On the first day of courses I made sure to attend office hours and made sure to introduce myself to others when I was there! When I wasn’t in office hours I made sure to join some online groups and group chats to introduce myself to even more people.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part about being an LSA transfer student is the number of people that I have met and the number of resources that are available to me! These opportunities really helped me to become acclimated with the new environment and to not feel so alone.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? One thing I wish I knew before transferring to the University of Michigan was that the workload can be intense, and it requires a lot of time management. Since being a student, I’ve come to realize that having quality time management is so important to success as a student!
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I’ve always wanted to go into the field of psychology, with the hopes of becoming a psychiatrist. When looking at major declarations I saw BCN and immediately knew it was the right fit for me and for my future due to the broad reach that this major has!
