Hometown: Rochester Hills, Michigan
Where did you transfer from? Oakland Community College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I wanted to be immersed in an active learning community with access to all the resources UM offers for their students’ educations.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? I want new transfer students to know that there are countless programs offered by UM to help incoming transfer students feel more connected to the student body and the UM student experience.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I met many students just by making conversation with those around me in my lectures. It’s great to get to know the students in your class to have someone you can study with and feel more connected on campus.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? I love that there’s so many resources available to discover what’s happening on campus. It makes it that much easier to get involved as a non-traditional student.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how welcoming the UM community is. I was a bit apprehensive coming in that I would feel like an outsider as a transfer, but that has not been the case at all! There are many students across campus who are on all different parts of their academic journey and there are many opportunities for transfer students to immerse themselves in UM student life.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? Psychology has always been a fascinating subject to me. I would love to continue learning and in the future use that knowledge to help others better understand themselves and the world we live in.
