Major: Psychology
Hometown: Tecumseh, MI
Where did you transfer from? Washtenaw Community College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I have this deep passion for learning and growing. With the University of Michigan being so highly esteemed in that regard, it was always a big dream of mine! Ann Arbor is also an area I am fairly familiar with, and with being so close to home it was a no brainer for me.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? It is so imperative to give one hundred and ten percent in everything! That includes the work and social parts of being a student here. The social aspect of campus is what I find the most difficult, so I pushed myself to give my all and connect with others. It is hard work, but it is so rewarding when you can take on the hard things so the easy aspects of college life are even easier!
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I found that just being generally kind and open to new experiences and social interactions helps bridge the gap with a lot of people. I made connections in my classes first, which allowed me to feel comfortable to bridge out and interact with clubs and other social groups.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? I love the diversity within LSA! There are so many people to connect with and learn from. Also, I was shocked how many people within LSA are transfers. It really helped a lot to find others starting in relatively the same place I was.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? I wish I knew how many resources the University has to offer specifically for transfer students. I was under the impression prior to transferring that there weren’t actually that many transfers, but that isn’t the case! There are so many resources for social and academic support for you as a transfer student that are so helpful and were important to my transfer process.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I love psychology because of my passion for learning. It is such an extensive field which has vast amounts of knowledge within it that always excites me. I also have a strong desire to help others. Growing my understanding behaviors and coping skills has really helped me, I just want to extend that help to others who may struggle.
