Where did you transfer from? Pitzer College
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan? I chose the University of Michigan because of its reputation and number of resources & opportunities, specifically in my majors. I also wanted to be at a bigger university after attending a liberal arts college for my first two years of college. Being at Michigan has allowed me to get involved in research, try different extracurriculars, and be surrounded by so much school spirit.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students? Put yourself out there and try new things! When I first transferred it was overwhelming and stressful, but I tried to take advantage of the different opportunities and resources being offered to me. This helped me learn the resources at the university, start to build community, and ensure my success at and beyond being at the University of Michigan.
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus? I have met people and made friends through working at the Transfer Student Center, my professional fraternity, and in my majors through classes and events.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student? My favorite part is being a part of the transfer community. It is a diverse community that understands a non-traditional college experience, always has great advice, and is full of really cool people.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan? Use the resources that the University provides! There is a multitude of resources for transfer students, within your major, and through LSA that you can use during the application process and once you come to Michigan.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)? I chose Earth and Environmental Sciences because I wanted a more science-focused environmental major. I added on the Environment major because this is a fairly easy double major to do and to have a more interdisciplinary background with a specialization in Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
