Where did you transfer from?
Grand Rapids Community College
Tell us about your transfer journey.
My undergrad experience has mirrored many individuals that identify with underserved communities. While completing community college I held two jobs and helped out with familial duties. Here at umich I have been able to step back from those responsibilities and immerse into academics. This is why I chose umich as my transfer institutions for the many support systems in place. As a Jack Kent Cooke scholar I have had many opportunities open. My favorite thing about umich are the classes offered in their wide variety. Additionally, as a transfer student I am able to find a niche of peers experiencing a similar path. I am hopeful to help with the financial aid processes that many applicants are concerned with as this was something I had wished I was more prepared for prior to transferring.
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan?
I chose U-M as my transfer institutions for the many support systems in place.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student?
Research opportunities are vast and abundant! With the help of UROP I have been able to find a lab, continuing my love for research and genetics. The relationship I have been able to build with my lab supervisor has even helped me during the grad school application process.
Why did you choose your specific majors?
I plan to attend medical school in the next few years after completing my degree here at umich. I will pursue a M.D./Phd.
