Major: Plant Biology
Hometown: Hamshire, TX
Where did you transfer from? Arizona State University (online)
Why did you choose to transfer to the University of Michigan?
I was looking for schools with strong science and environment degree programs, somewhere with seasons (the south was getting too hot), an involved student community, as well as a new area to live in and explore for a bit.
Based on your personal experience, what is the one thing you want to tell new transfer students?
It can be pretty hard to adjust to the pace at first, but feeling challenged is completely normal and you can totally do this! Mindset is half the battle!
How did you make friends and meet other students on campus?
Either in classes or at the Transfer Student Center. Put yourself out there and just try to chat with people nearby.
What is your favorite part about being an LSA transfer student?
Going to the Transfer Student Center to study, chat, or both. There are always friendly people in there for advice or help.
What do you know now that you wished you knew before transferring to the University of Michigan?
There are all kinds of great folks here; don’t be nervous to reach out when you’re struggling.
Why did you choose your specific major(s)?
I was interested in pivoting from a career in the military to a field where I could focus more on helping people.
