About
I am a Lecturer and Science Writing Specialist in the Sweetland Center for Writing. The majority of my educational training has been in the sciences. I received my Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, where my research focused on invasive species management in the North American Great Lakes. I became interested in science writing through my own professional experiences in both scientific writing and science writing (for a general audience). As a professional scientist, I have honed my writing abilities by developing proposals and publishing papers as well as by teaching science writing to undergraduate and graduate students alike. At Sweetland, I work with students to improve their writing about science. My teaching pedagogy emphasizes integrating writing opportunities and inquiry-based activities to improve educational experiences for students in the sciences.
