Emma Lerman

Emma Lerman received her B.A. in Russian Language/Literature and theatre studies from Hampshire College in 2016.  She received her M.A. in Slavic Studies from Brown University in 2017.  In 2021, she received another M.A. in International and Regional Studies, specializing in Russia and Eastern Europe, from the University of Michigan.  Emma's current academic research examines Soviet identity politics through literature for children written in Russian and Yiddish.  Her interests are diverse, but she is particularly fond of trauma theory; folktales, fairy tales, and mythology; Russian, Ukrainian, and Yiddish 20th-century poetry; adaptions and translations; and Jewishness in Eastern Europe.  During her free time, Emma enjoys creating art, playing Dungeons & Dragons, and hanging out with her cat.
