Azhar is a PhD candidate in the department of Slavic Languages and Literatures. She holds a B.A. in World Languages, Literature and Culture from Nazarbayev University (Astana). Her work revolves around contemporary literature and film from Central Asia, Siberia, and the Caucasus and the application of postcolonial analysis to the post-Soviet space. In her dissertation, Azhar focuses on the intersection of coloniality, race, gender and sexuality. Azhar’s hobbies are singing and composing.
