According to LSA, “The John Dewey Award recipients are selected each year by the College Executive Committee from among those recommended for promotion from associate professor to full professor with tenure. Award recipients have demonstrated long-term commitment to the education of undergraduate students.”

LSA dean Anne Curzan wrote that the committee members were particularly impressed by Nestor Lopez-Duran’s “work in Psych 270 in both its large and small versions,” especially his “efforts to enhance student motivation by bringing in their authentic interests, and to help students develop themselves as scientific thinkers.”  The committee also lauded Lopez-Duran for his mentorship of both undergraduate and graduate students, particularly those in the Clinical Psychology area.
