The Department established the Bolter Fund in 2005, in memory of the late Candace Bolter after her brave struggle to complete her teaching duties and continue graduate study in the face of grave illness. Candace began at Michigan in 2002. The Candace Bolter Award is available at the Department Chair's discretion to help our graduate students finance occasional academic or personal needs that are not covered by other sources, such as emergency travel for family or personal reasons. Students who find themselves with such needs may submit an e-mail petition to the Chair of Graduate Studies for assistance from the Bolter Award. Students may also seek assistance from the Rackham Graduate Student Emergency Funds.
