LSA DEI Workshop: Fatness and Body Diversity on Campus

Presented by Sarah Heineken (She/Hers) Intercultural Program Advisor at the University of Michigan Center for Global and Intercultural Studies
Wednesday, May 22, 2024
10:00 AM-12:00 PM
LSA Employees Only

Fostering a culture of body inclusivity in our communitiesAlthough fat folks experience high levels of discrimination in the workplace and society at large, fatness and body diversity are often overlooked aspects of DEI efforts in higher education. As academics and student affairs professionals working towards more inclusive practices, it is critical to consider ways in which systemic anti-fatness and size discrimination impacts faculty, staff, and students on-campus and beyond. In this session we will explore how fat folks navigate our community, and how your department can become more accessible and inclusive of diverse bodies.Length: 2 hoursAudience: This workshop is limited to LSA employees only, which includes staff, faculty, and graduate and undergraduate student employees. External to LSA University employees may be considered if space is allowed. If you are outside LSA, your registration may be removed without warning to accommodate LSA employees. Thank you for understanding. For questions or requests for accommodations, please contact our office (lsa-dei-office@umich.edu) as soon as possible. Accommodation requests are generally easy to provide, but may require some time to accomplish, so advance notice is appreciated.
