What is a health issue that you are really passionate about, and why?

A health issue I am passionate about is access to healthcare for minorities and healthcare literacy. A huge issue in not only Houston but around the country and in other countries is trust in healthcare and their access to it. I aim to make a positive impact on the trust people have in healthcare through advocating and the care I provide as a nurse. This is a big issue for me because a lot of my close friends, relatives, and even parents couldn't and wouldn't go take a trip to a hospital or clinic even for more major health issues as they simply didn't trust them or have access to one that could translate for their respective language. In addition to that, they would also have to wait at least a month or two before being able to get a check-up, otherwise, they would have to use the E.R. which is far more expensive.

Describe a way you implement wellness and taking care of yourself?

One way I implement wellness and self-care is through my hobbies. I always make sure that every day I do something that makes me happy. Whether it's playing pickup somewhere, playing Volleyball, going out with friends, playing a game, etc, I will always find time to incorporate a little bit of that in my daily life. Having time to yourself no matter what it is, is the key to self-care! Never repeatedly put others first before yourself, as to properly care for your friends and family, you have to make sure you're cared for first!
