The Health Sciences Scholars Program began in 2001 as a collaboration of U-M schools and colleges that enroll a significant number of pre-health undergraduates, several U-M graduate health schools, and University Housing's Residence Education.
HSSP introduces students to key issues and the breadth of careers in the health sciences by bringing together students and faculty from a broad range of backgrounds, interests, and experiences. Participation in HSSP provides members with a deeper understanding of the many facets of study available to students interested in the health sciences, connects students to valuable resources that help define their pre-health journeys, and allows participants to share perspectives and learn from one another in a supportive and intimate environment.
HSSP assists freshmen in their transition to the University of Michigan by offering a health-oriented, welcoming, diverse, and engaging learning community. HSSP also provides opportunities for academic support, leadership development, community service, and mentorship.
