Hi! My name is Emmabella, and I am from Los Angeles, California. I am majoring in Biology, Health, and Society with an intended minor in Business Administration on the pre-med track. In the future, I hope to pursue a career as a Family Medicine, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, or Pediatric physician. At Michigan, I serve on the board of Ballet Folklórico de Metztli as both a dancer and social media manager, and I am also a member of Phi Chi, a pre-med professional fraternity. A fun fact about me is that I ran the Los Angeles Marathon this past March! As an HSSP student, what I loved most about the program was the academic, career, and social support from both the staff and student leaders. The welcoming community made my transition to Michigan much easier, and I'm excited to help create that same experience for this year's students.

What is a health issue that you are really passionate about, and why?

One health issue I am especially passionate about is healthcare access and health disparities. Growing up in Los Angeles, I saw how language barriers, financial limitations, and unequal access to care can prevent people from receiving needed treatment. These experiences showed me that improving health requires addressing the social, economic, and environmental factors that shape outcomes. I hope to care for patients as a physician while also advocating for policies and community initiatives that expand preventive care and reduce health inequities.

What is a show that you've watched, a book you've read, or music you've enjoyed recently?

Recently, I've been listening to The Marías, Blood Orange, and BETWEEN FRIENDS.
