Karol Nuñez-Rodriguez

My name is Karol Nuñez, I am from a small village in southwest Michigan called Decatur. It is a very rural farm town with less than 2000 inhabitants. My current major is Neuroscience and I plan to double major in Latino/a Studies. I plan to attend medical school and focus on neurology and God willing, I plan to specialize in neurosurgery. I enjoy riding horses, farm life, working on and tuning my car, raising goats, and going to local car shows. Aside from being a HSSP PM, I am also a Kessler Scholar, so most thing are my first go around here at Umich. An interesting fact about me is that I did not speak English until first grade, as Spanish was my first language, so my first couple of school years were a bit challenging. What I loved most about HSSP as a first year, first gen student was hearing so many different options and paths in healthcare. Sometimes, we come in with a fixed and closed mindset and hearing other opportunities jumpstarts that independence within us and helps us to find our true selves. Hearing and learning from PMs about their paths and experiences were some of my favorite conversations and best parts of my days, even turning some PMs into my best friends.
