My dissertation project, tentatively titled "Securing the World City: Policing, Migration, and the Struggle for Global Los Angeles," follows local battles to define the global character of LA between the election of the city’s first Black mayor, in 1973, and the aftermath of the Rodney King uprising in 1992.
