Ada Ferrer, a 1995 graduate of the U-M History PhD program, has received a Pulitzer Prize in History for her book Cuba: An American History (Scribner, 2022). The Pulitzer Prize Board at Columbia University announced this year's awards on May 9, 2022.
Cuba: An American History, hailed as a "landmark" work, is the result of three decades of search spanning Cuba, Spain, and the United States.
Ferrer is Julius Silver Professor of History and Latin American and Caribbean History at New York Univeristy. She is also the author of Freedom's Mirror: Cuba and Haiti in the Age of Revolution (Cambridge University Press, 2014) and Insurgent Cuba: Race, Nation, and Revolution, 1868-98 (University of North Carolina Press, 1999).
