Lee Ambrozy

Lee Ambrozy (安靜) is a historian of Chinese art and material culture. Her research focuses on the mortuary arts of Middle Period China, painting formats, and examines the relationship between early flower-and-bird imagery and the medical and alchemical sciences. She brings a background in modern and contemporary Chinese art history and criticism. A former editor at Artforum, she edited and translated Ai Weiwei's Blog (MIT Press, 2011), and has curated exhibitions in Beijing, Taipei, and Foshan. 

Recent publications include an article on a Liao dynasty dish that appears in the 2025 Bulletin of the Detroit Institute of Arts and the essay "An Ai for Humanity," which reads Ai Weiwei's practice through craft and Chinese traditions of connoisseurship. The latter appears in the catalog Ai Weiwei (Hannibal Books, 2026), which accompanies exhibitions at Patrick Derom Gallery, Brussels, and the Emile Verhaeren Museum, Sint-Amands, September 2026.
