About
Srishti Sankaranarayanan’s research centers on the visual cultures of medieval and early modern South and Southeast Asia, with an emphasis on the arts and architecture of peninsular India. Her ongoing dissertation project explores the form and function of colossal temple cars (tērs) that convey bronze images of Hindu deities during seasonal processions in southern India. In 2021, she also received the Rackham International Student Fellowship to study the intersections between social order, space, and movement in medieval temples of southern India and Southeast Asia.
Previously, Srishti held museum internships and research fellowships at the Asia Society (New York), the Museum of Art and Photography (Bengaluru, India), the Denver Art Museum (Colorado), the Philadelphia Museum of Art (Pennsylvania), and the Government Museum of Chennai (Chennai, Tamil Nadu).
