About
Sarah studies modern and contemporary Asian American art. Her research centers the Third World Movement of the 1970s and the relationship between modernism and Third Worldism. In addition to art historical methods, she is interested in Asian American studies, transnational studies, and transpacific studies.
She received her B.A. in History of Art from the University of California, Berkeley, where she developed interests in both modern/contemporary art and prehistory. Her honors thesis on prehistoric handaxes, titled "Rock Art," received the Andrew K. Stewart Prize for Excellence in Research Writing. Before coming to Michigan, Sarah worked in contemporary art galleries in the Bay Area and helped to found the Gold Art Prize, a biennial award that supports outstanding contemporary artists of the Asian/Pacific diaspora.
