About
Katia Taylor is a first-year PhD student focusing on the visual and material culture of the late Middle Ages. Her research explores women’s roles as artists/authors, patrons, and subjects of various media, including textiles and illuminated manuscripts. Additionally, she is interested in the relationship between visual art and the written word, especially in depictions of classical mythology and Biblical subjects. Prior to her doctoral studies at the University of Michigan, Katia earned her first M.A. in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from University College London, and her second M.A. in History of Art and Archaeology at NYU’s Institute of Fine Arts, where her thesis on fourteenth-century French alms-purses received distinction. In addition to academic study, she has also conducted curatorial research at London’s Islington Museum and served as a full-time research assistant to art historian Colin Eisler.
