History of Art welcomes two alumnae as new staff in the department
Monica Kenzie is the information resources technical specialist for the Visual Resources Collections. Her duties include cataloging and managing metadata for the image collections and teaching visual literacy and collections use. Previously she worked as architecture, art and design library specialist at the New Jersey Institute of Technology where she taught information literacy, provided reference services and managed the image database and digital archive projects. She is a double alumna of the University of Michigan (BA History of Art 2006, MS Information 2014) and is happy to be back in Ann Arbor!
Jen Lewis is the executive secretary, with 12+ years of service to the university. She spent several years providing administrative support to the Research Center for Group Dynamics at the Institute for Social Research (ISR), including a few years as executive secretary to the ISR director, as well as several years in the U-M Medical School supporting clinicians and physician scientists.
Perhaps not surprisingly, Jen loves discussing various aspects of art history and museum practices. Specifically, she is passionate about contemporary art and the role visual art plays in the social and political activism. Additionally, Jen is the conceptual artist behind the macrophotography project Beauty in Blood, which is a collaborative effort produced with her spouse. The purpose of Beauty in Blood is to challenge the long-standing cultural taboo surrounding menstruation by offering viewers an alternative perspective on menstrual fluid. The project has been featured in The New York Times, The Guardian, and the Huffington Post.
When she’s not being a complete art geek, Jen enjoys exploring local and regional culture through food and microbrews, supporting her local roller derby (Ann Arbor Derby Dimes), and chilling with her motley crew of pets.
