Twice a year, College Art Association awards grants through the Millard Meiss Publication Fund to support book-length scholarly manuscripts in the history of art, visual studies, and related subjects that have been accepted by a publisher on their merits, but cannot be published in the most desirable form without a subsidy. Thanks to the generous bequest of the late Prof. Millard Meiss, CAA began awarding these publishing grants in 1975.
Books eligible for a Meiss grant must currently be under contract with a publisher and be on a subject in the arts or art history.
- In the Spring of 2017, the Meiss grant was awarded to alumnus J. P. Park, associate professor at UC Riverside, for his upcoming book, "A New Middle Kingdom: Painting and Cultural Politics in Late Choson Korea." This is Park's second Meiss grant and is only one of two authors in the history of the CAA to have been awarded the grant twice.
- Alumna Katie Hornstein, assistant professor at Dartmouth, also won the Meiss grant for her upcoming book, "Picturing War in France, 1792-1856" (pictured above)
Congratulations to J. P. and Katie!
