Students watch Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" under the stars on Tappan courtyard.

On September 27, Helicon, the history of art undergraduate student group, continued its annual tradition of presenting an outdoor movie screening on the Tappan courtyard. This year's film was the 1985 dystopian science fiction classic Brazil, directed by Terry Gilliam.

"Our goal is to provide an opportunity to explore the art of film, as it is important to us to showcase and interact with a variety of media," explained Liam Dougherty, president of Helicon. "Additionally, this event is a great way for us to kick-off a new year for the club, and it allows everyone to get to know each other a bit better."

In the weeks leading up to the event, students suggest films and then meet in the student lounge in Tappan Hall to watch trailers and vote to decide which film will be shown. Suggestions this year included Solaris, Rear Window, and 2046.

Like everything Helicon organizes, the event is 100% planned and executed by group members. "We select the film, create posters to advertise the event, set up all the technical components, and even provide free popcorn for all who attend," said Dougherty.  "It allows a lot of people to get involved and put together something really enjoyable for everyone."
