GERMAN FILM INSTITUTE <br>The Cinema of Crisis: German Film 1928-1936
Directed and written by Arnold Fanck. With Brigitte Horney, Sepp Rist, Ernst Nansen, Eduard von Winterstein and Helene Fehdmer. Based on Karl Ziak’s story “Picard wider Balmart,” Der ewige Traum (sometimes referred to as Der König vom Mont-Blanc) is the story of French mountaineer, Jacques Balmart’s quest to climb Mont Blanc in search of gold in 1786. Director Arnold Fanck is known as the father of the Mountain film — a genre popular in the 1920s and 30s, which typically featured spectacular on-location photography of dangerous climbs as brave heroes and heroines conquered Germany’s (or in this case, France’s) lone frontiers.[Source: mubi.com]
