About
Global changes in climate, land cover, and human movement are transforming the landscape of infectious diseases, from the poleward expansion of vector-borne disease to the spillover of novel human pathogens from animal reservoirs. I study the impacts of these global changes on the ecology and evolution of diseases such as dengue, Lyme disease, and Valley fever. I am particularly interested in understanding: 1) what drives the emergence of infectious disease and 2) how pathogens and vectors are adapting in response to global change. My work uses a variety of analytical approaches parameterized by field and laboratory experiments as well as genomic, geospatial, and epidemiological data.
