Faculty Publication Spotlight: Dr. Hernán López-Fernández in Ecology and Evolution

A rare fish from South America is helping scientists rethink how river systems connect and how aquatic species move between them.

Sampling sites for Krobia potaroensis (n = 59) from the river systems of the Pakaraima Mountains and sister Krobia sp. ‘Middle-Mazaruni’ (n = 4). Map generated in QGIS v3 with topography layers derived from NASA Shuttle Radar Topography Mission Global 1 arc second (2013), and river layers from the free-flowing rivers dataset (Grill et al. 2019). Due to mapping scale, one symbol may represent two or more nearby localities.
