“[The International Studies major] encouraged me to look into the impact and influence of globalization on both a micro and macro scale, also on the local, national, and global levels. I graduated at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, so traveling was not an option. Despite this barrier, I was still able to consider how global experiences were being realized in every person and everything. I didn't need to go abroad to use the knowledge and skills I developed from the International Studies major. One thing I would encourage people to look into is the concept of the 'global' approach. I was first introduced to this concept during my time in the U-M Social Work program. I loved my time with PICS and it encouraged me to look at topics from an interprofessional and interdisciplinary lens. This led to me pursuing my dual master's in MPH (Health Behavior & Health Education with an Injury Science Certificate) and MSW (Global Social Work Practice and Management & Leadership).”
