“My International Studies minor gave me incredible insight into specific international themes that I could focus on. It was through my 301 class that I found my specific interest in democratization, which is the space I now work in at the International Republican Institute, a non-partisan, non-profit international development organization in Washington, D.C. that seeks to promote free and fair democracies around the world. As a program associate in its Latin America and the Caribbean division, I work on democracy building projects that support initiatives like investigative journalism, transparency and accountability, countering violent extremism and gender-based violence, legislative reform, civil society advocacy, and citizen inclusion. All of these are topics I began to discuss in my International Studies minor, so I feel prepared and grateful to continue that work beyond the classroom.”
