“I'm currently pursuing an MD/PhD at Vanderbilt University and planning to do my PhD in Epidemiology. My experiences with U-M International Studies exposed me to a wide variety of concepts that prepared me to approach medical school with a rather unique perspective. I have been able to utilize principles from U-M coursework in health policy and the social determinants of health at Vanderbilt's student-run free clinic, where I volunteer to help patients navigate the convoluted structural inequities that negatively impact their health. I look forward to utilizing my experiences at U-M to inform my PhD research, where I plan to focus on the intersection between socioeconomic health factors and the policy interventions needed to mitigate them.”
