About
Jeffrey Wilson Mantilla (pnunciation: Mantilla = mahn-TEE-ya) is a professor in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences. His research focuses on paleontology of backboned animals (vertebrates) from the Mesozoic Era, which spans roughly from 250–66 million years ago. He has strong research ties in Latin America—especially in Colombia, where he conducts paleontological fieldwork. Professor Mantilla is currently part of a team developing an undergraduate course in Earth & Environmental Sciences that will take students to Colombia to learn about mineral resources, ecology, natural hazards, tectonics, and paleontology.
