About
Mary Elizabeth (Liz) Malinkin is the Assistant Director of Programs and Operations at the Center for Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. Liz holds an M.A. in Russian and East European Studies from U-M and wrote her thesis on ethnic minorities in the Moscow labor market. She returned to the University in 2016 after nearly ten years on the staff of the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw the Kennan Institute’s fellowship programs and conducted research on migration in Eurasia. Liz began studying Russian language, history, and politics at Carleton College in Minnesota, where she received a B.A. in history. Between her undergraduate and graduate programs she lived in Vladimir, Russia for two years where she studied at Vladimir State Pedagogical University and taught English at the American Home. Liz was also a member of the US-Russia Social Expertise Exchange working group on migration for several years and continues to follow contemporary social issues throughout Eurasia.
