3 credits
Prerequisites: Two college-level courses in Biology and/or EEB, or permission of instructor
Satisfies requirements for: BS, PitE Practical Experience, Biology Lab, and EEB Field/Research
Meets: Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Instructor: Nate Haan
Course Description:
Insects and their kin are abundant and influential members of ecosystems. In this course, students design and participate in field studies to discover how insects interact with their abiotic environment, with each other, and with other types of organisms. The majority of class time will be spent carrying out field experiments, learning how to generate and frame research questions, design and implement studies, interpret data, and present results. Topics we cover will range from the level of individual insects to communities, ecosystems, landscape-scale patterns and processes, and how they interface with evolutionary processes.
