The University of Michigan is home to a vibrant community of 1,700 student organizations, and they are welcome to experience the remote, natural setting at the University of Michigan Biological Station, which engages all of the senses and nurtures deep thought and scientific discovery.
Plan a Visit
The University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) has limited funds to help support U-M student groups wishing to visit the UMBS campus to participate in student-led educational and research workshops and retreats and outreach activities in northern Michigan. UMBS is a field research station and living-learning campus located on Douglas Lake in Pellston, Michigan, surrounded by 10,000 acres of undeveloped land with hiking trails.
On-Campus Housing
We have a year-round dormitory with a kitchen and lounge that can accommodate up to 28 people January through April, as well as September through December. During the summer months (May and August only) we have rustic cabins, a dormitory and a full-service hall for meals. We cannot accommodate groups in June or July. Contact umbs@umich.edu for fee rates.
How to Apply
Please send a detailed description of your program, include reasons why UMBS is the best place for your activity, and a draft budget to umbs@umich.edu. Selection criteria include appropriateness for the activity to happen at UMBS, community outreach and engagement, and demonstrated financial need.
The priority deadline is January 15.
