Pauline Jones, professor of political science and director of the International Institute published an article in The Washington Post's Monkey Cage discussing Uzbekistan's recently deceased president and the concerns and speculations that his death might create. Concerns included instability within landlocked, predominantly Sunni Muslim country in Central Asia — and creation a power vacuum in the region — may be unfounded.
