“I was fortunate enough to acquire an eight-week internship this summer with a Māori iwi (tribe), Waikato-Tainui, native to New Zealand. The tribe is the largest in New Zealand and its rohe (area) covers the whole of Waikato and part of Taamaki Makaurau. I was able to intern on the tribe’s Rights and Interests Team as a policy advisor, and worked on projects that required economic analysis and profiling. I looked at key strategic investments that provided the most cumulative economic, social, and environmental returns for the tribe. It was an incredible experience to learn more about my culture and get the opportunity to utilize and develop my career skill set.”

Future plans: “I would like to work in government or as an ambassador for New Zealand is some form.”
