Kang Il-won is currently a justice in the Constitutional Court of Korea. He sits on the bench that decides the nation’s laws as set forth in the constitution, and as such, adjudicates the organization and principles of the government as well as the protection of people’s basic rights in Korea. In addition, he serves as a bureau member of the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission). An alumnus of Seoul National University College of Law, and the U-M Law School (LLM ‘93), Justice Kang served on various district, national, and high courts in Korea prior to the Constitutional Court.
