LACS is the main hub on campus for faculty working in and on Latin America and the Caribbean, serving as a home for scholars to develop their individual and collaborative research projects and to enhance the university’s curricular offerings.
LACS is distinctive among leading peer institutions as no other center of its type works as consistently across such a wide range of schools and programs. With over 80 faculty affiliates, our intellectual community is thriving and makes the University of Michigan one of the best places in the country to study the Latin American and Caribbean region. LACS has strong ties to multiple departments in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts and to the Schools of Engineering; Environment and Sustainability; Law; Medicine; Music, Theater and Dance; and Public Health.
We accept applications for faculty affiliation and event funding on a rolling basis. For current and prospective affiliates, we encourage you to learn about our Indigenous Studies Network and to reach out to our office if you have colleagues who might like to organize a similar faculty cluster.
