LACS Visiting Faculty Spotlight: Ignacio López
The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) at the University of Michigan is honored to welcome our affiliated visiting faculty member, Dr. Ignacio López.
Dr. Ignacio López holds a PhD in History from Torcuato Di Tella University, in Argentina. Among his many distinctions and academic positions, Ignacio is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the National Scientific and Technical Research Council of Argentina. He was also awarded a Fulbright Fellowship and a scholarship from the Ministry of Education of Argentina in order to pursue a postdoctoral research visit at the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) at the University of Michigan. He also holds a position as Adjunct Professor of History at the Department of Political Science and International Relations at the Catholic University of Argentina.
Ignacio’s research focuses on the debates over republican and federal systems in interwar Argentina. In particular, he analyzes the scholarly production of professors and alumni who were connected to the Facultad de Derecho (Law School) of the University of Buenos Aires. Thus, Ignacio is analyzing the intersections between the academic and the political-professional fields. In this sense, he seeks to examine which were the most significant diagnoses about the constitutional system in Argentina, as well as its “real functioning,” according to the views of one of Argentina’s most important law schools.
Here at the University of Michigan, Ignacio is working with Prof. Paulina Alberto (History and Romance Languages and Literatures). Under her mentorship, Ignacio is working to understand some of the most under-studied academic exchanges taking place amongst scholars, politicians, and intellectuals during this peculiar period Argentine history. To this end, Ignacio is conducting research in the Hatcher Graduate Library and the Law School Library, amongst other research facilities on campus.
