Marisol Fila is the 2020-2021 recipient of the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies Alfredo D. & Luz Maria P. Gutierrez Dissertation Award for her dissertation titled, “Content and Form: Twenty-First Century Black Press and Articulations of Blackness in Buenos Aires, São Paulo and Lisbon”.
LACS offers one award for the Alfredo Gutierrez Dissertation Award in Latin American and Caribbean Studies each year. The award of $16,000 goes to one Ph.D. candidate to support the dissertation write-up. We particularly encourage dissertation projects that have interdisciplinary appeal. After a thorough review of an unprecedented number of proposals this year, the LACS selection committee is pleased to recognize the high quality of Marisol Fila's scholarly work.
Receiving the Alfredo D. & Luz Maria P. Gutierrez Dissertation Award is a big honor. I'm truly excited about the opportunity of devoting myself to the writing of my dissertation during next year. My deepest gratitude to the Gutierrez family, the LACS Fellowship Committee and the support I have received from LACS and my advisors during the process of the application! Huge thanks!
