Susan Atkins is one of the three recipients of this year’s President’s Award for Leadership in International Education, whose work has strengthened global education opportunities for students. Atkins will be receiving an award in the Rising Professional category. She has served as lead faculty for English Language Development at the Marsal Family School of Education since 2021. In her role, she has quadrupled enrollment in the ELD endorsement program and revived international study-abroad programming for teacher education students after a 15-year hiatus.

The award recognizes faculty and staff contributions that connect U-M students with global communities, cultures and perspectives.

The awarding ceremony will take place on September 25, 2026, from 9 to 10 a.m. in the Rogel Ballroom at the Michigan Union. RSVPs will be required, and a livestream option will also be available.
