A Talk with Lina Meruane

Lina Meruane is a Chilean writer, essayist and cultural journalist. She has published a collection of short stories, Las Infantas (1998), and contributed short fiction to many publications in Spanish, English and French. Her novels include Póstuma (2000, translated into Portuguese, 2001), Cercada (2000) and Fruta Podrida (2007), which was awarded First Prize for the best unpublished novel of 2006 by the Chilean National Council for the Arts and Culture. She was awarded a Guggenheim fellowship. Meruane has been invited to read her work at Cornell University, Barnard College, Washington University, Haverford College, Fordham University, New York University, Casa de Américas in Madrid, Universidad del Claustro de Sor Juana in Mexico City and the Universidad de Lima in Perú, among others. She has taught in the Creative Writing in Spanish at NYU, and currently teaches at Fordham University. A workshop and Q&A session with Meruane will follow on Friday, March 18, 10:00-11:30am, in 100 Gallery Room (Hatcher Graduate Library). Readings will be in Spanish; Q &A will be in English and Spanish. Cosponsored by the Department of Romance Languages and Literatures and the Institute for the Humanities .
