The Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies (LACS) together with the Brazil Initiative at LACS feature presenters from diverse disciplines. LACS organizes and sponsors more than 50 public lectures, workshops, performances, and conferences over the course of the academic year.

Lessons of Authoritarianism and Democratic Resilience in Latin America: Resisting New Authoritarianism(s) in Latin America
Ailynn Torres Santana, La Facultad Latinoamericana de Ciencias Sociales (FLACSO), Ecuador
Join us for a discussion with Dr. Ailynn Torres Santana on the rise of alt-right, authoritarian movements across Latin America. Torres Santana is an associated researcher at the International Research Group on Authoritarianism and Counter-Strategies of the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, a visiting researcher at the Freie Universität Berlin (2021), and an associate researcher at FLACSO Ecuador. Her research interests include feminist movements, inequality, and citizenship in Latin America. She has a column on
OnCuba News and has collaborated with numerous press platforms such as Jacobin-Lat, NACLA, and Sidecar-New Left Review. She is a member of the editorial boards of Cuban Studies (Harvard University) and Sin Permiso (Barcelona).
