The Brazil Initiative at LACS is a university-wide initiative to promote research, teaching, and activities about Brazil, and to enhance collaborations with Brazilian institutions and colleagues.
Led by University of Michigan President Mary Sue Coleman, a delegation of top U-M scientists, scholars and administrators traveled to Brazil in September 2012 to strengthen collaborations throughout the nation. As a result of these talks, the Center for Latin American and Caribbean Studies submitted a proposal to carry out a set of projects, developed in working meetings with Brazilian colleagues. The Office of the President approved this proposal, funding these activities under the rubric of the Brazil Initiative.
The Brazil Initiative at LACS comprises intersecting networks organized on supporting the arts and celebrating the culture; collaboration on advancing science research; advancing tolerance, equality, and human rights; and disseminating knowledge through translation.
