Yiwen Xia was born in Liaoning, China, and completed her bachelor’s degree in history from the University of Macau. Her research takes an interdisciplinary approach to women’s emotions in post-socialist China, especially as they are expressed in literature, film, and media. She is interested in how emotional narratives both reflect and challenge dominant cultural discourses, and how they open new perspectives for understanding social change. By linking the history of emotions with digital media and cultural production, her work explores the evolving role of emotion in shaping collective identities and public life. Yiwen’s current project investigates the place, function, and potential of emotions in modern Chinese society, while also considering how advances in media have transformed emotional expression and experience. She hopes to contribute to the growing field of emotional history by highlighting the dynamic interplay between emotion, media, and cultural politics. She looks forward to deepening her research and engaging with the LRCCS community.
